the forgotten project
I don't know how and why I just remember my old works; however, this project is always being my regret. My professor had been promised me to exhibit this project since 2002 fall, but things were going different ways…I guessed.
Here is my project layout

Exhibition: “Ownerships”
Stamps:
Large size: about 3 pieces (45*45)
Medium size: about 9 pieces (20*20)
Small size: about 100 pieces (1.5*1.5)

As my major— Chinese calligraphy seal carving, the traditional luting of Chinese, I found something interesting. In the origin of seal carving, seal carving was used to seal a letter and to ensure that it would not be opened by another person. With the time, the seal carving function evolved into the emblem of the owner. If one stamped a seal carving on a book, it would mean this book belonged to him or her; no matter if it would interfere with the book or not. This action is a declaration of ownership. This characteristic is very interesting for me. If I stamped a seal carving on the sky, would it mean the sky belongs to me? But the answer is always not. The truth is that humans cannot own everything. In other way, we own things and we use the things. At the same time, we cannot own those things because we could not take them forever. Things change all the time. How could we keep everything by a seal carving?

This project was supposed to cover the university campus where I was studying my grad. On the windows of each building at this campus, one can see many different size seal carvings cover the windows.

Its a real shame this never got to be more than some Photoshop images. Maybe they should be revisited in a more famous place, as a more "official" art one day. I doubt the people in LIU would have even understood it.
